Advanced materials allow the creation a great number of innovative areas and fields of activity, mainly in sectors where the materials´ new properties haven´t been applied, or their use widespread. In order to increment functionality and add value to products, these materials must be combined with equally innovative technologies. Multidisciplinarity becomes an essential aspect in the development of new products. Therefore, for AuxDefense´s development three innovative technologies are being used: advanced fibrous structures, intelligent composite materials and nanotechnology.

Materiais avançados possibilitam a criação de um grande número de áreas inovadoras e campos de atuação, principalmente em segmentos onde as novas propriedades dos materiais não tenham sido ainda aplicadas ou o seu uso disseminado. Estes materiais, para que seja possível incrementarem funcionalidades e valor acrescentado aos produtos, precisam de ser combinados com tecnologias, igualmente inovadoras. A multidisciplinaridade torna-se um aspeto essencial no desenvolvimento de novos produtos. Assim, para o desenvolvimento do projeto AuxDefense está a recorrer-se à utilização de três tecnologias inovadoras: as estruturas fibrosas avançadas, os materiais compósitos inteligentes e a nanotecnologia.
