Army The Portuguese Army is an integral part of the national forces system and its main mission is to participate, in an integrated way, in the military defense of the Republic, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the law, being fundamentally geared to the generation, preparation and sustaining the operational component of the force system. In view of the current international strategic climate and instability factors, where transnational terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction pose the greatest threat potential, it is essential to have a modern army, adequately sustained, capable of acting across the spectrum of current conflict, particularly jointly and in combination.

Exército O Exército Português é parte integrante do sistema de forças nacional e tem por missão principal participar, de forma integrada, na defesa militar da República, nos termos do disposto na Constituição e na lei, sendo fundamentalmente vocacionado para a geração, preparação e sustentação de forças da componente operacional do sistema de forças. Tendo em consideração a atual conjuntura estratégica internacional e os fatores de instabilidade, em que o terrorismo transnacional e a proliferação das armas de destruição maciça assumem o maior potencial de ameaça, os correntes modelos de emprego dos instrumentos militares em face das atuais missões, é essencial dispor de um Exército moderno, adequadamente sustentado, capaz de atuar em todo o espectro da conflitualidade atual, particularmente de forma conjunta e combinada.
